Pakistan

Counterfeiting in Pakistan has risen as a significant concern, particularly in sectors like pharmaceuticals, electronics, clothing, and automotive parts. The prevalence of counterfeit goods in Pakistan is estimated to be around 12-15% of total market trade. This undermines both consumer safety and the economy, particularly in regions like Karachi and Lahore, which have been hotspots for counterfeit production and distribution.

In recent years, Pakistan has made strides to address this challenge through enhanced laws such as the 2005 Anti-Counterfeit Act, which addresses intellectual property theft and counterfeiting. However, enforcement remains a challenge due to resource limitations and corruption in some sectors. The Pakistan Intellectual Property Organization (PIPO) has made efforts to work with both local authorities and international agencies to strengthen anti-counterfeiting measures and improve IPR awareness. While progress is evident, much work remains in tackling this issue comprehensively.
