Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has seen a significant rise in counterfeit goods, particularly in the apparel, electronics, and pharmaceutical sectors. Counterfeiting is estimated to account for around 10-12% of total retail trade in the country, with counterfeit clothing and footwear being the most commonly seized items. The Sri Lankan government has taken proactive steps in recent years, working with global IPR organizations to curb this issue.

The Intellectual Property Office of Sri Lanka (IPOSL) plays a key role in enforcing IPR laws, and there have been increasing efforts to implement stricter penalties for counterfeit-related offenses. However, the country still faces challenges related to low awareness of IPR and under-resourced enforcement agencies. To address this, Sri Lanka has begun partnering with international organizations and neighbouring countries to improve enforcement and create stronger legal protections for intellectual property owners.
